1 Oct
Summary
- Salman Ali Agha's T20I captaincy reportedly ends.
- Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf also face squad exclusion.
- Babar Azam's position in T20Is remains secure.
Reports suggest a major shake-up in the Pakistan men's T20I team, with current captain Salman Ali Agha reportedly being dropped from both the leadership role and the squad. This comes as the team prepares for the Asian Games, where their semi-final qualification was secured due to match washouts.
Further changes are expected, as fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf are also rumored to be excluded from the T20I squad. Amidst these potential departures, Babar Azam's position in the T20I series against Sri Lanka is said to be secure.
Sahibzada Farhan, who is currently captaining a second-string side in the Asian Games, and Shadab Khan are reportedly the leading candidates to take over the T20I captaincy. Salman Ali Agha's tenure saw him lead the team in 50 T20I matches, achieving a notable win rate of 62% and reaching the Asia Cup 2025 final.
