Saints Eye Treble: FA Cup Clash Against Foxes Looms
13 Feb
Summary
- Southampton aims for a second treble against Leicester.
- This is the eighth FA Cup tie between the two clubs.
- Leicester's Mavididi has scored in all three FA Cup appearances.
Southampton is set to face Leicester City in their eighth FA Cup tie, with the Saints aiming to replicate their 2007-2008 season success by securing a treble over the Foxes. This encounter follows their recent semi-final meeting in April 2021, where Leicester emerged victorious before winning the trophy.
Leicester has a mixed recent record in the FA Cup fourth round, progressing in seven of their last nine ties since the 2014-15 season but being eliminated at this stage last year. For Southampton, avoiding back-to-back home FA Cup defeats is a key objective, a feat they haven't experienced since January 2016.
Adding to the anticipation, Leicester's Stephy Mavididi has been in formidable form, scoring in every FA Cup appearance for the club this season, including a goal and an assist in their third-round win against Cheltenham.
