The New Orleans Saints are counting down 60 days until their 60th NFL season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, September 13. As training camp approaches, the No. 60 jersey remains unoccupied. This number has been worn by a variety of players throughout the team's history.
Brian Schweda, Doug Sutherland, and Carl Cunningham were early wearers of the No. 60. Greg Westbrooks, a 17th-round pick, played three seasons as a starting linebacker. More controversially, Don Reese, acquired from the Miami Dolphins in 1978, became known for locker room issues and a significant cocaine problem.
Steve Korte, a second-round selection in 1983, is the highest-drafted player to wear No. 60 and holds the record for most games played in the jersey with 83 over seven seasons as a starting center. Other notable players include Derek Kennard and Craig Novitsky.
Kendall Gammon wore No. 60 for one season, and Nick Leckey was the first of three consecutive centers to wear the number, followed by Brian De La Puente, a key player on the 2011 offense. Max Unger, acquired in the trade for Jimmy Graham, also wore No. 60 for 63 games before retiring after the 2018 season.
Since Unger's departure, several players have worn No. 60 for brief periods, including Patrick Omameh, Albert Huggins, and Kyle Hergel. Currently, the No. 60 jersey is vacant heading into the 2026 training camp.
