SailGP racing in Auckland has been significantly impacted by a serious collision that occurred on Saturday. The incident involved the New Zealand and France SailGP F50s, colliding shortly after the start of the third race. Racing was abandoned due to the severity of the crash.
Two sailors involved in the incident have been hospitalized. Louis Sinclair, a grinder for the New Zealand team, suffered compound fractures to both of his legs. These injuries involve the bone piercing through the skin. Manon Audient from the French team was inside the cockpit during the impact. She was violently thrown forward, breaking the catamaran's steering wheel. Audient was transported to Auckland Hospital and is under observation pending further medical assessment for potential major abdominal injuries.
