Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar recently paid homage to his late father, Ramesh Tendulkar, by launching the Professor Ramesh Tendulkar Memorial Fellowship. This initiative aims to expand opportunities for young professionals, building upon his father's timeless lessons about honesty, character, and the importance of avoiding shortcuts. Tendulkar recalled his father's encouragement to pursue cricket while instilling values of integrity.
The fellowship, established in partnership with the Inga Health Foundation, will provide financial support for one Doctor of Medicine (MD) annually. This support is for a year-long specialisation program in cleft and craniofacial care, to be undertaken in Srinagar. This program directly reflects his father's belief in education and service.
Tendulkar highlighted that his father, a professor and poet, recognized his son's passion for cricket, offering him the freedom to chase his dreams. He underscored his father's teachings that failure is acceptable, but dishonesty and shortcuts are not. The fellowship aims to carry forward this ethos, believing that education creates opportunities and that these opportunities gain true meaning when used to help others.
