As of October 13th, 2025, Aryna Sabalenka has clinched the year-end No. 1 WTA ranking, despite failing to defend her Wuhan Open title. Sabalenka, the defending champion, was upset in the semi-finals by Jessica Pegula, ending her streak of three consecutive Wuhan Open victories.
However, Sabalenka's lead over Iga Swiatek in the rankings was already substantial, and Swiatek's quarter-final exit at the Wuhan Open further cemented Sabalenka's position at the top. Swiatek, the former world No. 1, is now more than 1,600 points behind Sabalenka and will not be able to reclaim the top spot before the end of the year.
