Garcia: Rematch with Tank Davis only at welterweight
21 Sep
Summary
- Garcia insists on a 147-pound catchweight for a rematch.
- Davis has offered 144 pounds, but Garcia rejects it.
- Benn accepts his loss to Garcia and credits him.
Just three days after his victory over Conor Benn, Ryan Garcia has stated that Gervonta 'Tank' Davis and his advisor Al Haymon have reached out regarding a potential rematch. Garcia expressed his willingness for the fight but is adamant about the weight class, demanding it occur at 147 pounds.
Garcia wrote on X, "147 or nothing. And I want him to get a tune up fight and be at his best when we fight." This comes after Davis initially suggested a rematch at 140 pounds, which Garcia dismissed. Garcia reminded Davis of their previous fight in April 2023, where Garcia made concessions on weight.
Davis has since increased his offer to 144 pounds, but Garcia's latest post indicates this is still not enough. The welterweight champion also mentioned other potential opponents, including Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney, who have expressed interest in fighting him.
Conor Benn, having suffered his first career stoppage loss, took to X to acknowledge Garcia's win, stating, "Not my night, no excuses." Benn had skipped post-fight media following precautionary medical checks.
