Rutgers has landed a promising defensive end recruit, Josiah Sturdivant, who committed to the Scarlet Knights on Sunday. Considered an underrated talent, Sturdivant chose Rutgers despite holding offers from several other collegiate programs.
He had initially planned additional visits but has now canceled them to solidify his decision. Tight ends coach Scott Vallone and defensive coordinator Travis Johansen were instrumental in recruiting Sturdivant, who received his first Power Four offer in May.
Sturdivant's junior year performance at Wake Forest High School was notable, with 51 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, and eight sacks. He is the second recruit from North Carolina in Rutgers' 2027 class, joining linebacker Moses Poku-Kankam. Sturdivant also adds to the team's defensive depth, alongside safety Trent Buttles.
