Russell Westbrook Ends NBA Career After 18 Seasons

Russell Westbrook officially retired on Wednesday, concluding an impactful 18-year career in the National Basketball Association. Throughout his tenure, Westbrook played for seven distinct teams, leaving a notable legacy. The Los Angeles Clippers, one of his former teams, extended congratulations and gratitude via social media.

Westbrook, a Los Angeles native, played two seasons with the Clippers from 2023 to 2024. He joined the team in February 2023 after a buyout with the Utah Jazz. During his time with the Clippers, he averaged 12.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game over 89 regular-season and playoff games.

His decision to retire was announced via a social media video, narrated by actor Michael B. Jordan, which showcased his career highlights. Westbrook's extensive career includes an NBA MVP award in 2017, nine All-Star selections, and holding the league's all-time record for triple-doubles. He also earned nine All-NBA Team selections.

Westbrook played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, Denver Nuggets, and Sacramento Kings. In his final season with the Kings, he posted averages of 15.2 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.4 rebounds, providing crucial stability.
