McIlroy's performance on Friday required significant effort, especially as he approached his final hole, the par-5 ninth. He delivered a strong 310-yard drive and reached the green in two shots, ultimately securing a birdie with a two-putt. This clutch finish brought him to 1-over 145 for the tournament, though he voiced a desire to be higher on the leaderboard. His back, however, appears to be improving, showing a similar recovery trajectory to a previous instance at the 2023 Tour Championship.
