Roq Montgomery, a former standout from Anniston, is embarking on a new chapter in his college football career at Western Kentucky. Having entered the transfer portal after three years at Alabama, Montgomery will now play under head coach Tyson Helton. Helton spoke highly of Montgomery, emphasizing his physical attributes and acknowledging his past accolades as a high school player.
Montgomery, a 6-foot-3, 330-pound offensive lineman, was a highly touted recruit, earning four-star status and national recognition. He originally committed to Alabama, choosing them over offers from prominent programs. Despite appearing in limited games with the Crimson Tide, he is expected to make a significant impact for the Hilltoppers.
The Western Kentucky program, led by Helton, has a reputation for serving as a "platform for people to launch," and Montgomery aims to be the latest player to leverage this opportunity. The Hilltoppers are preparing for their 2026 season opener on September 5th at Nevada, with Montgomery anticipated to be a key addition to their offensive line.
