The Washington Commanders suffered a 30-13 defeat against the Indianapolis Colts, dropping their season record to 1-3. The game took a significant turn when starting quarterback Marcus Mariota was injured early, leaving rookie Athan Kaliakmanis to lead the offense.
Despite the challenging circumstances and facing one of the league's top cornerbacks, Sauce Gardner, Kaliakmanis displayed remarkable bravery. He connected with wide receiver Treylon Burks for a 47-yard touchdown pass against Gardner in the third quarter. This marked a statistically challenging game for Gardner, who was targeted five times, allowing four receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Although the Commanders' overall result was a loss, Kaliakmanis's performance offered a glimmer of hope. He demonstrated resilience by taking hits and continuing to compete. With Jayden Daniels expected to return soon, Kaliakmanis's future playing time remains uncertain, but his bold outing against a formidable opponent has put him on the map.
