Ronaldo Misses Key Match Amid Security Fears
2 Nov
Summary
- Cristiano Ronaldo did not travel for an important match due to security concerns.
- The player was left out by the coach for the trip to Uzbekistan.
- Recent attacks by Houthi rebels have heightened security issues in the region.
Cristiano Ronaldo did not accompany Al Nassr for their AFC Champions League match against Pakhtakor on Monday, with security concerns cited as the reason. Coach Ange Postecoglou opted to rest the Portuguese superstar and other key players like Kingsley Coman and Mohamed Simakan for the journey to Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
This precautionary measure comes after a series of security incidents in Saudi Arabia, including recent attacks on airports by Houthi rebels. These concerns had previously caused Al Nassr's home game against Al Wasl to be postponed, as the UAE club declined to travel. Ronaldo had recently scored a hat-trick in a league match, bringing his season total to nine goals.
