Red Sox Prospect 'Roman Empire' Back on Field

Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony has commenced his Major League rehab assignment at Polar Park with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox. Anthony, known as 'The Roman Empire' during his minor league career, began his rehab process last week with Double-A Portland before transferring to Worcester. He sustained a torn ligament in his right ring finger during a game on May 4, which led to his placement on the injured list. Initially on the 10-day IL, lingering discomfort prompted a move to the 60-day IL on June 28. Anthony expressed positivity about his progress, noting his enjoyment of being back on the field and his anticipation of rejoining the major league club soon. His return to Polar Park marks a significant step in his recovery journey.

Anthony's tenure with the WooSox includes notable achievements, such as being part of a prospect call-up in 2024 and hitting a remarkable grand slam. He was recognized as the top prospect in baseball before his promotion to the Boston Red Sox on June 9, 2025. Having spent 442 days away from Polar Park, Anthony marked his return with a single and a bases-loaded walk in his first rehab game. He is eager to return to big-league games, contingent on his continued successful progress through his rehab assignment.
