Summary
- Manager Robbie Savage urged his squad to change their mentality.
- The team secured a 4-1 EFL Trophy win in Savage's first match.
- A trip to Leicester City is scheduled for Savage's league debut.
Robbie Savage is challenging his Peterborough squad to adopt a new "mentality" to overcome a period of perceived underachievement. The team demonstrated a glimpse of this new approach with a commanding 4-1 EFL Trophy win over Ipswich Town U21s, a match that saw them score four goals in just nine minutes during the first half.
Savage, who took charge recently, expressed his desire for the team to focus on their own game and entertain the supporters, particularly with a significant away following expected for his opening League One match at Leicester City on Saturday. He stated, "It's about us, it's about our fans." He believes the current players are underachieving and capable of much more.
The EFL Trophy victory secured Posh's progression to the competition's last 32. Savage hopes this performance serves as a blueprint for his management style, characterized by "relentless," "high-energy" play. While acknowledging that this attacking approach might lead to conceding goals, he is optimistic about the positive start and the fans' enjoyment.
