Rios Arrives: Al-Ittihad Boosts Midfield
5 Sep
Summary
- Richard Rios joins Al-Ittihad on loan from Benfica for the season.
- His arrival addresses midfield gaps left by Kante and Fabinho.
- Rios aims to be ready for a key Saudi Pro League match Saturday.
Colombian midfielder Richard Rios has joined Al-Ittihad on a season-long loan from Benfica. The deal, valued at 4 million, is a significant boost for the team's midfield, which has been weakened by previous player departures. N'Golo Kante and Fabinho both left Al-Ittihad earlier this year, and a significant injury further stretched the squad's depth.
Rios, an international player, is anticipated to arrive in Jeddah soon. The club hopes he will be available for a high-profile match against Al-Nassr on Saturday, which is Matchday 4 of the Saudi Pro League season. This move marks Rios' first experience playing in Asia.
The club is reportedly seeking additional foreign players to enhance their roster, following another player's transfer. Discussions are said to be progressing with another European club for a potential new signing.
