Hatate's Celtic Chapter Closes for £6.5M Burnley Switch

Reo Hatate has officially transferred from Celtic to Burnley, with the Championship club agreeing to an initial fee of £6.5 million, plus potential add-ons. The 28-year-old Japanese international has signed a three-year deal at Turf Moor, marking his first experience playing in England. Hatate spent over four years with Celtic, joining in 2022 under Ange Postecoglou. During his tenure, he made 191 appearances, scoring 33 goals and providing 31 assists. His trophy cabinet includes five Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups, and two League Cups.

Celtic assistant Shaun Maloney expressed his admiration for Hatate, calling him a brilliant player who will be missed. The midfielder's transfer comes as Celtic also saw striker Johnny Kenny move to Preston North End for £3 million. These departures are part of a larger squad reshuffling effort by the club as they aim to complete several new signings before the UEFA Europa League registration deadline.
