Yan Diomandé netted the decisive goal, securing a narrow 1-0 victory for Real Madrid against Villarreal. This win keeps them six points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona. The match saw a controversial moment when winger Vinícius Júnior was sent off.
Vinícius, who came on as a substitute, had a goal disallowed and was subsequently dismissed after VAR intervention revealed he had pulled Villarreal's Nathan Saliba's hair. Real Madrid then had to defend their lead with 10 players.
Kylian Mbappé was fit to start despite recent concerns. He was Madrid's primary threat in the first half, hitting the post and forcing a save. Diomandé's goal came in the second half after good build-up play.
Vinícius's joy turned to anger as his goal was chalked off and he was sent off. Thibaut Courtois made key saves later to preserve the clean sheet, ensuring Real Madrid clinched three crucial points.
