Ravens Trade for Brissett Amidst QB Crisis

The Baltimore Ravens, currently last in the AFC North with a 4-4 record, are making a significant move by acquiring quarterback Jacoby Brissett. This decision comes as the team faces a severe quarterback crisis, with star Lamar Jackson out indefinitely due to a thumb injury and backup Tyler Huntley also sidelined for the season with turf toe. These injuries have led to a sharp decline in performance, with the Ravens losing their last three games and experiencing offensive struggles not seen in two decades.

Brissett, who has a career record of 23-50 and has never had a winning season, was benched by the Arizona Cardinals and ranked third on their depth chart. However, his 86 career touchdowns offer a potential boost to Baltimore's offense, which has been held to 14 points or less in three consecutive games. The Ravens' playoff chances are slim, estimated at 6.4% according to ESPN Analytics, leading General Manager Eric DeCosta to consider trading veterans for draft capital.

Instead of a full rebuild, the Ravens are opting to compete, bringing in Brissett with the help of quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork, who previously worked with him in Arizona. This move is crucial for Jesse Minter's first year as head coach and Declan Doyle's first season as offensive playcaller. Even with playmakers like Derrick Henry and Zay Flowers, the team has suffered from off-target throws and poor offensive line play. Brissett's addition provides a better option than the current inexperienced quarterbacks, though it remains to be seen if it can truly turn the season around.
