Sabres Star's Fiancée Lost Baby Amid Health Crisis

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin and his fiancée, Carolina Matovac, have shared the tragic news of losing their baby during Matovac's recent health crisis.

Matovac experienced severe heart failure while on vacation in France last summer. This critical condition required her to undergo CPR multiple times and weeks on life support before receiving a heart transplant.

During this traumatic period, the couple discovered Matovac was pregnant. Concerns for their unborn child were a factor in seeking hospital care, where her first heart failure occurred. Matovac revealed on what would have been their baby's due date that the loss of their child was a profound sorrow, but credited the baby's role in her survival.

Dahlin took a temporary leave from the Sabres to be with Matovac in Sweden during her recovery. He returned to the team in late November, following his fiancée's successful transplant and recovery.
