Rapinoe Slams Hockey Team's Trump Visit

Soccer star Megan Rapinoe has voiced strong disapproval of the U.S. men's Olympic hockey team's decision to visit Donald Trump following their championship win.

Rapinoe described the visit as a "classic ripping defeat from the jaws of victory," stating that the players ruined their moment of glory. She expressed disappointment that they allowed themselves to be "co-opted by a clown."

Her criticism stems from a joke Trump made during a call with the team, which Rapinoe interpreted as a jab at the women's hockey team, also gold medalists. She questioned the players' respect for themselves and their female counterparts.

Rapinoe recalled her own 2019 stance, where she refused to visit the White House if the U.S. Women's National Team won the World Cup, a stance that led to a public exchange with Trump. The women's team ultimately did not visit. Her wife, Sue Bird, echoed these sentiments, expressing disappointment in the hockey players for laughing at the joke.
