27 Oct
Summary
- James Reimer was pulled after allowing three goals on eight shots.
- He allowed goals on the first two shots he faced from Los Angeles.
- Reimer signed with the Rangers on Sunday and played immediately.
James Reimer's debut for the New York Rangers concluded prematurely after only one period of play on Monday night. The 38-year-old goaltender was removed from the game after permitting three goals on eight shots faced against the Los Angeles Kings.
Dylan Garand was substituted in to replace Reimer. This decision followed Reimer's signing with the Rangers on Sunday, with the team aiming to ease the workload on Garand. Garand had been the primary goaltender due to a season-ending injury to Igor Shesterkin.
Reimer's brief outing saw him surrender goals on the initial two shots from the Kings, including markers from Trevor Ward and Brandt Clarke. Drew Doughty also scored, contributing to the early deficit. Reimer had previously been on a professional tryout with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack.
Prior to this appearance, Garand had started seven consecutive games, highlighting the team's goaltending challenges. Coach Mike Sullivan acknowledged the demanding nature of the position, both physically and mentally, for Garand.
