Dodgers Prospect's Fierce Arm Silenced by Injury

Randy Kohn, a former catching prospect for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has died at age 78. Kohn was celebrated for his extraordinary defensive abilities behind the plate during his promising baseball journey.

Kohn's legendary arm was noted for his ability to throw out base-stealers from his knees. His fearless approach to the game and talent were even highlighted by Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda.

Drafted initially by the New York Mets in 1965, Kohn was later selected by the Dodgers in 1967. He made an immediate impression in his professional debut with a two-run single. However, a career-ending injury cut his playing time short before he could reach the major leagues.

Despite the setback, Kohn returned to the University of Georgia, completed his business management degree, and forged a successful life outside of baseball. He is survived by several grandchildren.
