15 Feb
Summary
- Falcons may pursue Derek Carr due to Michael Penix Jr.'s uncertain future.
- New Falcons team president is noncommittal about Penix as starting QB in 2026.
- Rams might consider Michael Penix Jr. as a long-term quarterback option.
The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly exploring veteran quarterback options, with Derek Carr emerging as a name linked to potential offseason moves. The Atlanta Falcons are rumored to be interested in Carr, especially with uncertainty surrounding Michael Penix Jr.'s future with the team. New Falcons team president Matt Ryan has expressed noncommittal sentiments regarding Penix Jr. as the starting quarterback for the 2026 season.
Ryan indicated that the decision on Penix Jr.'s role rests with the new head coach, Kevin Stefanski. With the Falcons expected to release Kirk Cousins and their indecision on Penix Jr., they might pursue a new quarterback, potentially even acquiring Carr affordably. The Rams, however, may see Penix Jr. as a long-term prospect. His left-handed throwing style and experience in a McVay-style offense suggest he could thrive in Los Angeles, potentially succeeding Matthew Stafford in the coming years.
