Rams Eyeing Potential Successor to Veteran QB Stafford
2 Aug
Summary
- Rams have extra 2026 first-round pick
- Considering drafting South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers
- Stafford, 37, still playing well but nearing end of career

As of August 2nd, 2025, the Los Angeles Rams are one of the favorites to represent the NFC in the upcoming Super Bowl. However, the team faces uncertainty regarding the long-term future of their starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford, who is currently 37 years old.
To address this potential issue, the Rams are reportedly eyeing South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers as a potential successor to Stafford. The Rams have an additional first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, which they acquired from the Atlanta Falcons in a previous trade. This extra pick could allow the Rams to invest in Stafford's eventual replacement, with Sellers being a top target.
According to Jacob Infante of PFSN, Sellers "isn't the consensus QB1 in the 2026 class, but he might have the best physical tools of any quarterback in college football." Infante believes that with Rams head coach Sean McVay's expertise in developing quarterbacks, Sellers could be an ideal fit to eventually take over the reins from the veteran Stafford.

If the Rams are able to land Sellers in the 2026 draft, it could allow them to skip any sort of rebuilding process and continue their pursuit of Super Bowl glory with a talented young quarterback waiting in the wings.
