The first day of the Ranji Trophy round 2 matches on October 25, 2025, was headlined by impressive centuries from experienced campaigner Ajinkya Rahane and in-form opener Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Rahane, the former Mumbai captain, led his team's fightback with a scintillating 118-run knock off 237 deliveries. This was the 60th first-class century of his illustrious career. However, Sarfaraz Khan, who was recently snubbed from the India A squad, managed to score just 1 run for Mumbai.
In another game, Gaikwad continued his sublime form, scoring a fluent 116 for Maharashtra against Chandigarh. His innings included 15 fours and helped his team reach 313 runs in the first innings. Arshin Kulkarni also chipped in with a crucial 50-run knock for Maharashtra.

Elsewhere, teams like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Delhi finished the day firmly in control of their respective matches. Bengal captain Abhimanyu Easwaran, however, failed to fire, getting dismissed for just 20 runs against Gujarat.
