Qatar GP Won't Shift Date for F1 Rescheduling
17 Jun
Summary
- Qatar's Grand Prix will not change its November 29 date.
- F1 is considering rescheduling canceled Middle East races.
- Qatar is prepared to host events amid regional uncertainty.
Qatar's Grand Prix will maintain its scheduled November 29 date, refusing to accommodate potential reschedulings of canceled Middle East Formula 1 races. The Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation's stance suggests a triple-header comprising Azerbaijan, a rescheduled Bahrain or Saudi Arabia, and Singapore is more likely for late 2026.
Formula 1 had considered rescheduling races canceled in April due to Middle East conflict. However, Qatar's president, Abdulrahman bin Abdullatif Al Mannai, stated that their November 29 date is fixed, being just before the final Abu Dhabi race. He emphasized Qatar's readiness to host, with no current cut-off date.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem indicated a decision on the final 2026 calendar would be made within one to two months. This is to avoid logistical issues arising from last-minute cancellations, prioritizing human safety. Qatar is slated to host three major motorsport events within five weeks late in 2026.
