Purdue Star Wollard's Status Uncertain for Season Opener

Purdue's volleyball team is awaiting an update on senior outside hitter Kenna Wollard's availability. Head coach Dave Shondell stated that the team does not have a confirmed return date for the National Player of the Year candidate. Wollard missed the team's exhibition match against Butler last Friday, and Shondell did not specify the reason for her absence.

Purdue begins its regular season on Friday, August 29, 2026, facing No. 13 Creighton in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This match is the first of a demanding four-game stretch that includes games against No. 8 Texas A&M on September 1 and Georgia on September 2 as part of the Big Ten-SEC Challenge. The team will also host No. 18 TCU later in the week.

Wollard's potential absence is significant, given her 4.86 points per set average and 577 kills last season. However, Purdue has invested in its roster through the transfer portal, adding Mimi Mambu from Georgia Tech, and has seen growth from redshirt freshman Addy Tindall. The team also boasts experienced players like Grace Heaney, Taylor Anderson, Dior Charles, Bianka Lulic, and Ryan McAleer, alongside transfer middle blocker Kate Hansen.
