Prince William described awarding Sir Kevin Sinfield his knighthood as "probably one of the easiest decisions anyone's ever had to make." Speaking in an exclusive BBC Breakfast interview, the Prince expressed deep personal admiration for Sir Kevin's recent completion of seven ultra marathons in seven days.
This extreme endurance challenge was undertaken to raise vital funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities, following the passing of Sir Kevin's close friend, Rob Burrow, from the condition in 2024. Prince William emphasized Sir Kevin's role as a community leader and praised his humble demeanor.
William also shared his personal experience of grief, referencing a letter he wrote to Rob Burrow's wife and children. He commended Lindsey Burrow's quiet dignity in coping with her loss. Prince William had previously opened the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease in Leeds in November 2025.
Sir Kevin, who has successfully raised millions for MND causes, also received recognition for his significant contributions to rugby. He has previously acknowledged Prince William's "fantastically supportive" role in championing community efforts, alongside Princess Catherine.
