India's Bhagat Rewrites Badminton History
14 Feb
Summary
- Pramod Bhagat won his fourth consecutive singles gold medal.
- Bhagat now holds six overall world titles in his category.
- He surpassed Lin Dan's record for most singles world titles.

Pramod Bhagat has cemented his status as a badminton legend by securing his sixth world title in the SL3 category. The Indian athlete clinched his fourth consecutive singles gold medal at the BWF Para World Championships on Saturday. He defeated Indonesia's Muhammad Al Imran in straight games, with scores of 21-12, 21-18.
This remarkable victory allows Bhagat to surpass the record previously held by China's Lin Dan, who had five men's singles world titles in able-bodied badminton. Bhagat's achievements now make him the most decorated singles champion in world championship history across the sport.
Bhagat's win also signifies a powerful redemption, following an 18-month ban for violating the Badminton World Federation's anti-doping whereabouts clause. This suspension had unfortunately led to his absence from the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Further strengthening his dominant performance, Bhagat, alongside Sukant Kadam, claimed the men's doubles SL3-SL4 title. They defeated fellow Indians J. Dilli and N. Sivakumar with a score of 21-19, 21-16 in the final, completing a memorable golden double for Bhagat.
