Chris Kennedy, a 33-year-old powerlifter, revealed he robbed a corner store and subsequently contacted CrimeStoppers in New Zealand to report himself. This act resulted in a sentence of three years and one month imprisonment, which he now considers the best decision of his life.
Kennedy, who had previously lived on the streets and struggled with drug use, found his time in prison to be eye-opening. He noted a sense of community and the positive effects of endorphins from working out, even joining a gang's workout session.
After serving two years, Kennedy was released early for good behavior. He then enrolled in higher education, earning a diploma, bachelor's, and master's degree. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD at the University of Queensland. He also gained experience working with the New Zealand Breakers as a strength and conditioning volunteer.
Kennedy is now a top-ranked powerlifter, holding the No.1 position in Australia and 12th globally. He is preparing to compete in the AusFitness Expo in Melbourne and an event in Germany, embracing the challenge of competing against the world's best athletes.
