Polar Preet: North Pole Solo Trek Begins
28 Feb
Summary
- Preet Chandi is attempting a solo, unsupported ski to the North Pole.
- She has previously skied solo to the South Pole.
- Her expedition faces extreme cold, ice, and polar bear threats.

Preet Chandi, an experienced solo polar explorer, is currently in Northern Canada preparing for a historic expedition to the North Pole. Known as Polar Preet, the 37-year-old physiotherapist aims to be the first woman to complete a solo and unsupported ski journey to the North Pole. This follows her previous solo expedition to the South Pole.
Her arduous trek, set to commence on March 9 from Ward Hunt Island, is expected to take between 60 to 70 days. The journey involves navigating challenging conditions, including temperatures as low as -50C, unstable pack ice, and the risk of polar bear encounters. Ms Chandi will be pulling two sleds weighing approximately 285lb, carrying all necessary survival gear and 5,000 calories of food per day.
Ms Chandi spoke from Iqaluit, in Canada's Nunavut territory, emphasizing the urgency to begin the expedition before the ice conditions deteriorate. She is still actively seeking sponsors to raise the final £110,000 needed for her drop-off at the starting line, with a deadline of nine days remaining. She hopes her journey will inspire others to push their boundaries.
