Tennis Players Stranded by UAE Drone Attack
4 Mar
Summary
- Over 50 players stranded after Fujairah Challenger event cancellation.
- Event halted due to a nearby drone attack impacting an oil zone.
- ATP cancelled subsequent tournaments amid security concerns.

Over 50 professional tennis players, including Lleyton Hewitt's son Cruz, found themselves stranded in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday morning. This situation arose after the Fujairah Challenger event was abruptly cancelled. The stoppage occurred when an alert sounded during play, coinciding with a plume of smoke from a suspected drone attack about 10 miles away.
The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has since cancelled both this week's Fujairah Challenger and the subsequent tournament scheduled for the same location. This decision came despite assurances that the event would proceed, even with earlier reports of explosions in Dubai. Several British players are among those unable to leave the UAE.
