The Pittsburgh Hardball Academy is celebrating the conclusion of the City League's baseball and softball seasons by honoring outstanding student-athletes. The All-City Awards, now in their third year, will be presented Thursday evening at the Pittsburgh Hardball Academy Training and Education Center in Shadyside.
This year marks a significant expansion as softball players are being honored for the first time. Additionally, both Perry and Westinghouse high schools have honorees, a first for the awards. Selection was based on regular season statistics and input from coaches.
In baseball, Obama Academy achieved an undefeated 8-0 record for the regular-season title and went on to win the playoff championship. Their season concluded with a PIAA Class 4A subdivisional loss. In softball, Carrick dominated, claiming the regular-season crown with a perfect record and winning the playoff championship.
The Raiders finished their season with a strong record before their own PIAA Class 4A regional championship game loss. The All-City Awards aim to recognize excellence both on the field and in the classroom, as well as community involvement.
