Bickerstaff's Bold Claim: Stewart Best Center?

Detroit Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff ignited discussion around the league by stating Isaiah Stewart is the best defensive center in the NBA, asserting the race isn't even close. While Stewart is having a strong season, averaging a career-best 2.0 blocks per game, Bickerstaff's assessment contrasts with statistical leaders.

Victor Wembanyama, who has missed nearly a month of play, remains a dominant defensive force. He consistently leads the league in blocks, currently averaging 3.6 per game this season, alongside 1.1 steals per game, far exceeding Stewart's defensive metrics.

Despite the potential exaggeration, Bickerstaff's high praise for his player is understandable. Fans will have an opportunity to witness a direct comparison when the Spurs, featuring Wembanyama, face the Pistons, led by Stewart, in February and March.
