Pepe's heartfelt farewell to Ronaldo's international career

Pepe has conveyed a poignant message to Cristiano Ronaldo after the football icon announced his retirement from international football on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Ronaldo's video message marked the end of a distinguished 23-year international career. He departs with an impressive record of 234 caps and 146 goals, both men's international records, alongside victories in Euro 2016 and the Nations League in 2019 and 2025.

The two players forged a strong bond over a decade, playing together for Real Madrid from 2009 until Pepe's departure in 2017. They also represented Portugal for many years, with Pepe earning 141 caps, the third-most all-time. Both were instrumental in Portugal's Euro 2016 final victory against France, where Pepe was notably named Player of the Match. Ronaldo's final international appearance was a 1-0 win against Wales in September 2026. His decision comes after a prior suspension following an incident where he left the national team camp, an event he had previously apologized for, stating he was not retiring at the time. The Portuguese federation has thanked their 'eternal captain' and plans a tribute.
