Pele's treasured memorabilia from his groundbreaking 1958 World Cup victory is set to be auctioned. Collectors anticipate significant interest in items associated with the football legend, who was just 17 during that tournament.
The centerpiece of the sale is his winners' medal from the 1958 World Cup, where he first gained global recognition. Sporting memorabilia experts estimate this medal alone could sell for around £500,000. The collection features approximately 450 World Cup-related artifacts, with total sales projected to reach about £2 million.
During the 1958 final, Pele scored twice in Brazil's 5-2 win over Sweden, marking him as the youngest player to score in a World Cup final and securing Brazil's first title. His iconic No. 10 jersey, worn during that historic match, will also be offered by Sotheby's online.
This jersey was gifted to his teammate Dida after the final and remained with his family for decades before entering a museum and later a private collection. The auction also includes other significant items, such as Gordon Banks' 1970 shirt.
