Atlanta's signature Independence Day celebration, the 57th Northside Hospital Peachtree Road Race, is scheduled for Saturday, July 4th. This iconic 10-kilometer event anticipates over 50,000 participants embarking on a course from Buckhead's Lenox Square to Midtown's Piedmont Park.
The race will commence with elite wheelchair athletes, followed by elite women and men. Participant waves begin at 6:50 a.m. EDT, with staggered starts continuing until approximately 8:30 a.m. Organizers advise participants to arrive early, by 6:15 a.m. Broadcast coverage will be available on Atlanta News First and its digital platforms.
Runners must prepare for extreme heat and humidity, with afternoon temperatures predicted to reach the mid-90s. The race is under a Red Flag Alert due to the dangerous heat conditions. An isolated thunderstorm may occur later in the afternoon. The 6.2-mile course features the challenging Cardiac Hill before a downhill finish. Water stations are positioned roughly every mile.
Transportation via MARTA is strongly recommended due to widespread road closures expected in Buckhead and Midtown. Participants must pick up their bibs at the Peachtree Health & Fitness Expo at Lenox Square; no race-day pickup is available. A valid ID and confirmation are required for packet collection.
