Summary
- Nine new clay courts enhance accessibility for older players.
- Renovations include new LED lighting for improved nighttime play.
- A public-private partnership funded the $301,000 complex expansion.

The Waccamaw Regional Tennis Center at Stables Park in Pawleys Island has celebrated its expanded and renovated facilities with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on August 22, 2026. The project added three new courts and converted existing ones to a senior-friendly playing surface.
Two new clay courts were constructed, alongside a new center court on a former grass field, offering better visibility and spectator seating for potential tournaments. These improvements are crucial for accommodating the many senior players who benefit from the softer impact of clay surfaces.
The facility now boasts nine clay courts, significantly increasing accessibility for older players. New LED lighting has also been installed, enhancing the ability to play after sunset, a popular option during warmer months and for those working during the day.
This expansion was realized through a public-private partnership, with the county providing the majority of funding and grants from the U.S. Tennis Association contributing $301,000. The project, initiated in 2019, saw the establishment of the nonprofit Friends of Stables Tennis to support the center's outreach and events.
