McClean's journey has seen him play for several clubs since leaving Derry's Brandywell in 2016. He had a spell with Waterford, a brief return to Derry in 2019, and significant time with Glentoran, making 184 appearances. He then rejoined Sligo Rovers in 2025 before this latest move.
Derry City manager Tiernan Lynch expressed his delight, calling McClean's return "home" and highlighting his experience and determination. The team, which finished second in 2025, will face Shamrock Rovers in the President's Cup on January 31st before kicking off their league season on February 6th.
