28 Jun
Summary
- Kidderminster Harriers wants to buy park land for new training facilities.
- The proposed sale involves 8.5 hectares of Burlish Country Park.
- Residents voiced concerns over wildlife and loss of green space.

A proposal to sell a fifth of Burlish Country Park in Worcestershire to Kidderminster Harriers Football Club for training facilities is under consideration. The club aims to develop several full-size pitches, including artificial turf, on a former golf course. This land, approximately 8.5 hectares of the park's total 40 hectares, is designated as green belt and has served as public recreation space since 2018.
A report prepared for the Wyre Forest District Council's overview and scrutiny committee recommends approving the plans. The club, recently promoted to the National League, is also in the process of purchasing its stadium. The proposed development would also include junior pitches and is contingent on a planning application and permission, with public consultation planned.
Concerns have been raised by residents on social media regarding the impact on local wildlife and the loss of popular green space. However, the council noted the affected area is not part of the nature reserve. Councillor David Ross believes a strong club will bring investment and stated that significant areas of the park would remain accessible to the public.
