Carolina Panthers pass rusher Nic Scourton sustained a knee injury late in Thursday's training camp practice. The second-round pick out of Texas A&M went down during team drills while rushing the edge. Trainers attended to Scourton, who was later taken off the field on a cart with his head in his hands.
Coach Dave Canales and all players expressed their support for Scourton as he left the field. The injury places additional pressure on other pass rushers, including Patrick Jones and second-year player Princely Umanmielen, to elevate their game.
Last season, Scourton played in all 17 games, starting eight. He recorded 47 tackles and seven tackles for loss, tying Derrick Brown for the team lead with five sacks. His absence is a significant concern for the Panthers' defensive front as they prepare for the upcoming season.
