Panthers Raise Stanley Cup Banner, Face Blackhawks in Season Opener

The Florida Panthers are set to raise their second consecutive Stanley Cup banner on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, as they host the Chicago Blackhawks in the opening game of the 2025-26 NHL season. The Panthers finished third in the Atlantic Division last season before embarking on a playoff run that saw them defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, Carolina Hurricanes, and Edmonton Oilers to claim the championship for the second year in a row.

However, the Panthers will be without their captain, Alexander Barkov, who suffered a torn ACL and MCL last month and is expected to miss at least the entire regular season. Playoff hero Matthew Tkachuk also won't be available until December after undergoing groin surgery. Despite these setbacks, the Panthers have retained key players like Conn Smythe Trophy winner Sam Bennett, defenseman Aaron Ekblad, and late-season pickup Brad Marchand.

The Blackhawks, on the other hand, are looking to turn their fortunes around after missing the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year and finishing last in the Central Division for the third season in a row. The team hired former Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill to guide the development of 2023 first-overall pick Connor Bedard, who led the Blackhawks with 23 goals and 67 points last season. Chicago also acquired veteran winger André Burakovsky from the Seattle Kraken in a pre-draft trade.
