The Palace City Post 18 Junior Legion team achieved a flawless 5-0 record to clinch the championship at the Daryl Bernard Tournament. Their dominant performance included two wins against both Vermillion and Worthington (Minn.), and a victory over the host team from Yankton. This unbeaten run at the tournament boosted their season record to 16 wins and 10 losses.
In the championship final on Sunday, Jordon Ebert delivered a stellar no-hitter, leading Palace City to a 9-3 victory over Worthington. Ebert's seven-inning complete game featured 10 strikeouts, with only three unearned runs scoring due to five errors by his team. Jack Hohn contributed three RBIs, while Blake Rehorst and Nolan Widstrom each scored three runs.
Earlier on Sunday, Palace City secured a dramatic 9-8 walk-off win against Vermillion. Gage Schmidt scored the winning run in the seventh inning on an error. The team also defeated Vermillion 7-2 and Worthington 3-1 on Friday. Saturday saw a 9-0 shutout win against Yankton, a game highlighted by another no-hit effort from the PCBA pitching staff.
Separately, the Palace City 14-and-under team competed in the Sioux Falls Slam tournament, earning a 12-1 victory over Buffalo (Minn.) in pool play. Preston Maeschen starred with a complete game pitching performance and three hits at the plate. Despite this win, the 14U team experienced losses against Renner, Bismarck (N.D.), and St. Peter (Minn.). They are scheduled to play Renner in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
