Pakistan Cricket Contracts Delayed Amidst Player Concerns
16 Oct
Summary
- Central contracts delayed until at least end of ODI tri-series.
- New format-specific contracts may replace seniority-based system.
- Previous contracts expired July 31; new ones backdated to August 1.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has delayed the awarding of central contracts until at least the conclusion of the ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka and England, set to finish on October 31. This decision allows head coach Mike Hesson and national selectors to thoroughly assess player performances in current international matches and the domestic season.
The previous contracts expired on July 31, and the new agreements, which will be backdated to August 1, are anticipated to introduce a format-specific structure. This new system will move away from the traditional seniority-based approach, potentially offering contracts for Test, T20I, or white-ball cricket individually.
Under the revamped system, player assessments will consider international experience over the past 12 months, medical fitness, domestic participation, and performance scores. Despite initial reports of player reluctance regarding single-format restrictions, negotiations have been ongoing, with final contract announcements possibly following Pakistan's two-Test series against Sri Lanka in November.
