Summary
- Paddle tournament raised funds for women needing cancer treatment.
- Event organizer was inspired by personal cancer scare and community.
- Over 60 players participated, with an auction also held.
A paddle ball tournament held over the weekend generated crucial funds for the Compassion House Foundation. This organization is dedicated to providing accessible accommodations and support for women who travel to Edmonton to receive cancer treatment.
The event was initiated by organizer Donna Paez, who was moved to act after experiencing her own cancer scare during the summer. She observed that many women within her paddle ball community were navigating similar health challenges.
Approximately 60 players gathered at the Paddle Zone for the tournament, which also featured an auction with items donated by the City of Edmonton. Paez expressed enthusiasm for the event's success, stating it will now be an annual tradition and expressed optimism for even greater participation next year. She highlighted the dual benefit of the sport: enjoyment of paddle ball and vital community support for cancer survivors during their recovery.
