Packers Tackle Zach Tom Becomes Bako-Bewele

Green Bay Packers starting right tackle Zach Tom announced his decision to change his name to Zach Bako-Bewele. This significant change is a tribute to his Nigerian ancestry, incorporating the last names of his paternal grandparents. The initiative to reconnect with his heritage began around March of this year, following years of contemplation since his college days.

Bako-Bewele shared that the inspiration behind the name change includes a desire to honor his roots and establish a meaningful legacy for his future children. He views the name Bako-Bewele as a way to convey his identity and origins.

While the legal process is nearing completion, with administrative tasks such as updating his social security card and driver's license in progress, the name change is not yet technically finalized. Bako-Bewele has been a key player for the Packers since 2023.

Additionally, Bako-Bewele is currently in rehabilitation after undergoing surgery for a partially torn patellar tendon. This injury had limited his participation last season. He expressed confidence that he will begin practicing with the team within approximately one week.
