Packers' Preseason Lineup Revealed: Key Starter Sidelined with Injury
7 Aug
Summary
- All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney out with a calf injury, expected to miss preseason
- Quarterback Jordan Love has a strong practice, throwing 3 touchdowns
- Packers dealing with several other injuries to key players ahead of preseason

As the Green Bay Packers prepare for their preseason game against the New York Jets on Saturday, the team appears ready to play their starters, at least for a little while. However, one key player will be missing from the lineup - All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney.
McKinney sat out Thursday's practice with a calf injury, which he described as a "lingering" issue. While he didn't anticipate playing in the preseason, McKinney assured that he will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. "I'll be ready when it's time to go, for sure," he said.
Despite McKinney's absence, the Packers' offense looked sharp in practice, led by quarterback Jordan Love. Love had a strong outing, going 9-of-11 passing with 3 touchdowns. He connected with several receivers, including Savion Williams, Tucker Kraft, Matthew Golden, and Romeo Doubs, showcasing his accuracy and decision-making.
The Packers are also dealing with a growing list of injuries, including to wide receivers Jayden Reed and Christian Watson, as well as several other players. Coach Matt LaFleur scaled back the intensity of Thursday's practice, with players working in shells rather than full pads.
As the Packers continue to prepare for the preseason and the regular season, they will need to navigate these injury concerns and find ways to keep their key players healthy and ready to go.
