The Green Bay Packers announced on Tuesday that they have claimed tight end Luke Lachey off waivers from the Houston Texans. Lachey, originally selected by the Texans as the 255th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, spent his rookie season on their practice squad.
During his collegiate career at Iowa, Lachey caught 74 passes for 893 yards and four touchdowns over 42 games. An ankle injury sidelined him for most of his 2023 season, but he returned in 2024.
Lachey's athleticism was noted before the draft, with a 4.85 40-yard dash and a 35-inch vertical leap. He joins a Packers tight end room that includes Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave, and others, as the team continues to seek depth at the position.
