Packers Defense Falters: Key Players Decline
29 May
Summary
- Several Green Bay defensive players showed performance decline in 2025.
- Cornerback Carrington Valentine's PFF grade dropped significantly late season.
- Linebacker Isaiah McDuffie struggled with increased snap counts and coverage.

The Green Bay Packers experienced a notable decline in performance from several key defensive players during the 2025 season. Cornerback Carrington Valentine, initially given an opportunity to secure a starting role, saw his PFF grades drop from an average of 70.55 in his first six games to just 53 in his final seven contests. The addition of new cornerbacks this spring may limit his future starting prospects.
Linebacker Isaiah McDuffie's performance also correlated negatively with his snap count. While he achieved a career-best 65.5 grade overall, his PFF score decreased from 71.5 when playing 23.2 snaps per game to 56.9 when averaging nearly 40 snaps. This suggests he is not suited for a full-time role in the team's defensive scheme.
Defensive linemen Warren Brinson and Karl Brooks also showed a late-season slump. Brinson's grade fell from 70.1 to 48.7, potentially due to the 'rookie wall' and increased responsibilities after Devonte Wyatt's injury. Brooks saw his grade decrease from 59.5 to 50.3, with fewer pressures in the latter half of the season.
Even star pass rusher Micah Parsons experienced a dip from an 83.9 PFF grade to 73.8 before a season-ending ACL injury in Week 15. Safety Evan Williams, though valuable overall, also saw his grades decrease from 67 to 60.6 in the latter half of the year. Injuries to Devonte Wyatt and Christian Watson also impacted their performance, with both players showing declines after returning from or during their injury periods.
